چکیده

In this paper we present an approach for automatic analysis of urban accessibility using 3D point clouds. Our approach is based on range images and it consists in two main steps: urban objects segmentation and curbs detection. Both of them are required for accessibility diagnosis and itinerary planning. Our method automatically segments facades and urban objects using two hypothesis: facades are the highest vertical structures in the scene and objects are bumps on the ground on the range image. The segmentation result is used to build an urban obstacle map. After that, the gradient is computed on the ground range image. Curb candidates are selected using height and geodesic features. Then, nearby curbs are reconnected using Bézier curves. Finally, accessibility is defined based on geometrical features and accessibility standards. Our methodology is tested on two MLS databases from Paris (France) and Enschede (The Netherlands). Our experiments show that our method has good detection rates, is fast and presents few false alarms. Our method overcomes other works reported in the literature on the same databases.

Multiplatform Mobile Laser Scanning: Usability and Performance

Mobile laser scanning is an emerging technology capable of capturing three-dimensional data from surrounding objects. With state-of-the-art sensors, the achieved point clouds capture object details with good accuracy and precision. Many of the applications involve civil engineering in urban areas, as well as traffic and other urban planning, all of which serve to make 3D city modeling probably ...

Mobile Lidar Mapping for 3d Point Cloud Collection in Urban Areas – a Performance Test

The use of static terrestrial laser scanning for the 3D data capturing of smaller scenes as well as airborne laser scanning from helicopters and fixed wing aircraft for data collection of large areas are well established tools. However, in spite of their general acceptance and wide use both methods have their limitations for projects that include the rapid and cost effective capturing of 3D dat...

Mobile Lidar Mapping for Urban Data Capture

Terrestrial laser scanning is meanwhile frequently used to capture high quality 3D models of cultural heritage sites and historical buildings. However, the collection of dense point clouds can become very labor expensive, especially if larger areas like complete historic sections of a town have to be captured from multiple viewpoints. Such scenarios opt for vehicle based mobile mapping systems ...

Automatic and Full Calibration of Mobile Laser Scanning Systems

Mobile scanning, i.e., the practice of mounting laser scanners on moving platforms is an efficient way to acquire accurate and dense 3D point clouds of outdoor environments for urban and regional planning and architecture. The mobile scenario puts high requirements on the accuracy of the calibration of the measurement system, as small calibration inaccuracies lead to large errors in the resulti...

Detection and Classification of Pole-like Objects from Mobile Laser Scanning Data of Urban Environments

− The Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) system can acquire point clouds of urban environments including roads, buildings, trees, lamp posts etc. and enables effective mapping of them. With the spread of the MLS system, the demands for the management of roads and facilities using MLS point clouds have increased. Especially, pole-like objects (PLOs) such as lamp posts, utility poles, street signs etc. ...
